Description:
Situated between the Theological Virtues of Faith and Love, does Hope mean anything more then having some vague aspirations for heaven? What depth is there in a seemingly simple concept?
Jared Smyth, a missionary on staff with FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, will be presenting some reflections on hope. Why is it a theological virtue, what are the benefits of a strong sense of hope, and what are the pitfalls against it? Looking at writings from St. Thomas Aquinas, modern Catholic philosopher Josef Pieper, and others, we will see what modern applications Hope may have, and modern problems that stem from its absence.
