First Friday Feast and Vigil
Dec 3rd, 2009 by Patrick
Once again it is time for First Friday Feast this Friday on Dec 4. Dinner begins promptly at 6:00 pm after the 5:15 mass in the basement of the Newman Center. The theme this dinner will be ugly Christmas Sweater. There will be a contest held for the person wearing the worst Christmas sweater. Following the dinner the Nativity Story will be played in the game room.
Also held that night will be a first Friday vigil beginning at 8 PM. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed till 11pm. In addition to the prayerfulness of the vigil, the Schola Cantorum of the Pittsburgh Oratory will be singing several chants. The Schola is a group of seven young men dedicated to preserving and giving life to the Church’s musical treasury. Throughout the night the devotions will be for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the joy-filled heart of St. Philip Neri. Each hour will feature a litany, a brief sermon, and congregational and silent prayer in addition to the plainchant. So come and join us for this evening of food, fellowship and devotion to our Lord.
