In the second part of that interview, he details the traditional and future relationship and impact of the Newman Center to and on the local and universal Church. That is, the original, here in Pittsburgh, Saturday, October 24th. This one’s for young adults in the area, and features Eucharistic adoration with Vespers and praise music, followed by a time for socializing, fellowship, and entertainment by Catholic artists, this time: musician and funny-man, Chris Padgett. Sponsored monthly by the Diocese of Pittsburgh, it is held at Sacred Heart Parish in Shadyside, with events beginning at 8pm. Bring a friend!

Worldwide Adoration Project

The Worldwide Adoration Project is promoting an hour of Eucharistic adoration beginning at 7:00 pm on April 2, 2008, this day being the third anniversary of Pope John Paul IIâ€™s death. The Fathers of the Oratory and the Eucharistic Adoration Committee invite you join us in the Oratory chapel for a holy hour from 7:00 to 8:00 pm as we commemorate the life and witness of Pope John Paul II. The holy hour will include readings from John Paul II on Eucharistic adoration, a homily (guest speaker: Fr. Brian Welding), chanting of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Benediction. Following the holy hour there will be a light reception with a viewing of the documentary John Paul the Great: A Pope Who Made History.

Spring Break Announcements

The Newman Center’s schedule of Eucharistic adoration will *NOT* be affected by spring break. The chapel will remain open and the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed at all the usual hours, including the Friday night vigil.

So far, the only cancellation is the Sunday night “Stump the Priests” Q & A on March 4th and 11th; check back for more updates. Please call the Newman Center with questions.

Forty Hours at the Newman Center

The Oratory looks forward this month to hosting a Eucharistic event – the traditional forty hours devotion. During our Ã¢â‚¬Å“Forty Hours for LifeÃ¢â‚¬Â in advance of the annual Ã¢â‚¬Å“March for LifeÃ¢â‚¬Â in Washington D.C., from Thursday night to Saturday morning, January 18 – 20, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for adoration in the Oratory chapel. In addition to the opportunity for silent prayer, the schedule will include some small meals downstairs with talks, special speakers/homilists, and devotional prayers interspersed throughout this triduum. Look in this space for details in the coming weeks, but reserve a spot on your calendar, and consider signing up for one or more hours for this special event.
