Newman and the American Universities

Cardinal Newman is in the news these days as Pope Benedict’s visit to England for his beatification draws near. His name is rather well-known in the US too, in connection with Newman Clubs and Newman Centers maintained at hundreds of non-Catholic colleges and universities around the country. To explain this apparently obscure connection, Fr. Drew Morgan, provost of the Pittsburgh Oratory of St. Philip Neri and former university chaplain, answers questions about the history of Newman Centers.
